No. 17 Murray Hill Square

Back in the 1910s, the sign over Frank Totten's porch advertised "painting, decorating, and wallpaper for sale." Totten, active in the borough's fire department, also ran a poolroom and confectionery where he sold soft drinks and candies. The house was located at 1286 Springfield Avenue, near McGraths Hardware, but has been torn down. Frank's grandnephew lives at 418 Elkwood Avenue in a historic house circa 1840.
