The Parcells

Shop names: Timepieces, The Salon, Richardson's

Three brothers of the Par Ciel family in France sailed to America in 1635, settling around Elizabethtown. In 1886, one of their descendants, Samuel Parcells, bought the 18th-century house at 44 South Street at a sheriff's sale. Parcells later served as the borough Postmaster and Treasurer. His son remembers his father purchasing the first bag of grain that Sam Baldwin ground at his mill on Floral Avenue. The home was occupied by New Providence Florists, next to the NP Fuel gas station. (demolished in 2022)
